A brief history

Greenville and Northern Railway was a famous railroad that once ran for 22 miles along the Swamp Rabbit Trail. Due to the community's and local advocates' efforts, this long-forgotten railway underwent a stunning transformation into a multi-use path in 2009.

In November 2019, the City of Greenville launched a master plan that included the 4.5-mile extension that covers from Cleveland Park to CU-ICAR which will open a certain area up to Verde Boulevard. This master plan was adopted by the Greenville city council last January 2021. Today, the city of Greenville, SC and Greenville County managed to complete the Green Line extension of the Prisma Heath Swamp Rabbit Trail along the north of Laurens Road and is now open to the public. As for future plans, three paths connecting Nicholtown, Gower and Verdae towards the extension are currently being planned as well as the construction of a Legacy Park trail connector and a bridge between Legacy Park and the Green line extension. Currently, the plan is in the process of being permitted and is set to be completed this winter.
