Both scenic and challenging, The Preserve at Verdae sits in the heart of mid-town Greenville. This course provides the perfect balance between golf and nature, and golfers will often see local wildlife during their time on the green. In addition to an 18-hole course, The Preserve at Verdae also features large all grass practice areas with driving range, putting green, chipping and short game green. Just east of Greenville, Thornblade Club sits on picture perfect valleys and foothills. The club offers a very active golf program with activities for the entire family. Opened in 1989, Thornblade is open all year round thanks to the mild climate of the Upstate area. Courses at The Cliffs offer a range of possibilities for play, there are 7 courses in total. Walnut Cove (designed by Jack Nicklaus) is the northernmost course, located in Arden, North Carolina. Courses in the immediate Upstate area include Glassy Golf Course, Valley Golf Course, and Mountain Park Golf Course. They also feature several courses on the shores of Lake Keowee, about 45-minute drive from the Greenville area. The Pebble Creek Club has 36 championship golf holes lying on 2 courses (Creekside and Linkside) and over 500 acres of natural South Carolina land. The courses feature charming ponds, beautiful dogwoods, and mountain-fed creeks, with all holes boasting Bermuda grasses. Pebble Creek also features a driving range, two chipping greens and putting greens. These courses are great for players of all ability levels. Subdivisions with access to the Pebble Creek Courses include Foxglove, Linkside, Pebble Creek, Linkside III, and Pebble Creek Village. Mountain views and tumbling waterfalls grace the grounds of the Cherokee Valley Golf Club. With some of the best greens in the Upstate, Cherokee Valley attracts golfers from all over the nation. Located in northern Greenville County, this 18-hole course is just a short drive from Greenville, Spartanburg, and Anderson. Greenville Country Club features two 18-hold championship courses, Riverside and Chanticleer. The Chanticleer course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., and some consider it the top course in the Upstate area. Flowing creeks and towering pines are scattered along the course. The Riverside course was recently redesigned and was opened in 2007 to rave reviews. Both courses are complete with driving ranges, practice greens, practice bunkers, teaching facilities and club storage. Designed by Georgie Cobb, the Holly Tree Country Club is an 18-hole course featuring four lakes and winding Glider Creek. Also on the grounds is a short course practice area ideal for players of all skill levels. Holly Tree has an active tournament schedule with over 100 member tournaments every year, and several reciprocal country clubs in North Carolina and South Carolina. Located in Simpsonville, SC, Holly Tree plays 6,790 yards from the blue tees, 6,340 yards from the member tees and 5,234 from the women and junior tees. Located in Duncan, SC (about halfway between Greenville and Spartanburg), River Falls Plantation is an 18-hole Gary Player Signature golf course. River Falls Plantation is one of the only courses in the Upstate to feature Diamond Zoysia greens, which promote year-round play! Bordered by the South Tyger River, River Falls Plantation also features a pro shop and a bar and grill for the complete golfing experience. Willow Creek Golf Club is just off of I-85 between Greenville and Spartanburg. With its manicured course conditions and challenging design, Willow Creek provides a fun, player-friendly experience for beginners and experienced players alike. The knowledgeable staff at Willow Creek will keep you coming back! While you’re there, take note of their “Signature” Hole, Number Three, a par three with a lake behind the hole. Designed by Russell Breeden, this 18-hole course is located in Spartanburg County. The land was originally used for farming and orchards, and the course still boasts a charming landscape including pear trees along the fairway on hole 10. Opened in 1969, Village Greens features a challenging 6,372 yards from the longest tees, and plays on beautiful bermuda grass. Greenville is also the home of the BMW Charity Pro-Am golf tournament, presented by SYNNEX Corporation. The tournament is a four-day better-ball competition over three courses (the 2016 tournament took place at Thornblade Club, The Reserve at Lake Keowee, and The Preserve at Verdae). It is the only tournament on the Web.com Tour where amateurs and celebrities are grouped with our professionals. Since 2001, the tournament has donated over $11.5 million to more than 200 charities, including the American Cancer Society, Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCA, and many more.
